The 9th (and final) Pillar of Wellness - Movement

Welcome to December and our 9th and final Pillar of Wellness - Movement.

Movement is the last of the Pillars of Wellness for a very good reason.

While, we hear a lot of influencers, Trainers, etc. emphasize the importance of going to the gym,

Movement is best and most successful when our body is actually ready.

To be ready for consistent physical activity, it is essential that we nourish our mind, Spirit, and body first.

This is why we started our journey exploring our mindset and Spirit.

Then moved on to appreciate the consumption of rest, hydration, and nutrition.

All of this was intentionally positioned to prepare and lay the foundation for movement.

Why?

Because, when we are properly nourished our body craves movement.

When we are sufficiently fueled, it’s hard to not move.

Think about how well we take care of children.

Think about the energy they have and their need to move their body, just for the sake of movement.

Maybe we shouldn’t dismiss that as just being a kid.

But look at the inputs of an abundance of food and napping as the nourishment that fuels their body’s desire for movement.

While childhood may have been the beginning of us being well fed, rested and moving with joy, it doesn’t have to be the last.

This is an invitation to eat (healthy food), drink (plenty of water) and be Merry and active.

It’s important that we understand that without sufficient nourishment we will struggle to stay motivated and consistent with exercise.

A malnourished body simply cannot sustain what movement asks of it.

So, give yourself some grace if you’ve been on a restrictive diet and losing motivation.

Now you know why.

Yet, movement is the one aspect of health we can all agree on.

Whether it’s walking, triathlons, mountain climbing, or racquetball, we know that intentional physical activity benefits our mental and physical health.

So, let’s approach movement as an opportunity rather than a chore.

When we carve out time for movement—whether in a gym, a studio, your living room, or a park—that time is for you.

Use it to connect with your body, release unhelpful thoughts, and appreciate the freedom of movement.

Regardless of your fitness level or ability to move, your body is the sacred vessel your spirit chose to inhabit.

God chose you and your body, not to be confined, but to fully experience life on Earth.

Your body's here to support you in exploring, living your purpose and thriving.

The key to sustainable exercise is finding what works for you

Everything works if you stick with it, and you’ll stick with it if you love it.

This month, we’ll explore common forms of movement, but this is by no means an exhaustive list.

Movement comes in many forms—dancing, hula hooping, rock climbing, even chopping wood.

The possibilities are endless.

Don’t let stereotypes or societal expectations limit your choices.

If you enjoy something, it’s for you.

You can be a retiree mastering competitive double Dutch.

Or a new mother learning Kung Foo.

If it brings you joy, you are the type of person who does it.

Let this be your invitation to move with intention, curiosity, and appreciation.

Rediscover the joy of movement.

And remember, you are not just moving your body.

You are honoring the Spirit that chose it.
