The (de) evolution of Food
The (de) evolution of food
Can we be ‘foodies’ if we aren’t eating real food?
Humans have been eating since the beginning of time.
For most of human history, we’ve been able to nourish ourselves.
Everything we ate was naturally provided by our environment and exactly what we needed to thrive in it.
However, over the past few decades (less than 1% of our existence) we have changed.
Instead of growing or raising our food, we started manufacturing it.
This shift to mass production and shipping food anywhere, fundamentally changed the way we think about nutrition.
We went from:
Grow/raise it -> cook it -> eat it.
Go buy it -> microwave it -> eat it
Door Dash -> eat it.
And when money and profits entered the picture, so did new health problems.
And as our health began to decline and our waistlines increased, we sought more of the same foods to ‘fix’ us.
We did not understand that this ‘food’ was the culprit to begin with.
Then enter the health, fitness and nutrition industry experts and influencers to help us understand what we should be eating.
And while their heart is in the right place, their guidance is based on being a consumer in the system.
Whether it’s meal plans, food coaching, or supplements, we are required to pay for a service.
And these services don't necessarily guide us back to the true source of good health.
Much of the (de)evolution of our food supply was out of necessity.
Wars, famine, etc. all contributed to the mass production of the processed foods we all know and love today.
These foods were initially created to prevent hunger and disease around the world.
But over time, they became the only foods many of us know.
The problem?
They’re not actually food.
Forget about calories, proteins, carbs and fats.
Just return to eating whole, natural foods—the kind that have sustained humans for the vast majority of our existence— and we are 99% of the way to better health.
But here’s the catch: there’s very little money in that.
We live in a consumer-driven economy, where the more we buy and consume, the better it is for business.
Diet plans, supplements, and weight loss products are heavily marketed to us as if they hold the secret to our health.
They promise that this one product, this diet program, is the key to reaching our goals.
When it doesn’t work, we blame ourselves and turn to the next shiny solution, repeating the cycle—sometimes for years, passing it down to the next generation.
If you’ve ever felt confused about all this, you’re not alone.
The system is designed to keep us in the dark.
There are vested interests working every day to make sure we trust them and not our Self or Mother Nature.
It is in movies, on TV, on social media, and even many healthcare professionals promote pills and procedures over health.
‘Natural’ health and organic is often branded as different or “alternative”, rather than normal.
For some of us who eat natural, organic, or grow their own food are considered “doing too much” or labeled as “health nuts.”
The reality is: everything should be natural.
So if any of this sounds new to you, don’t worry—you’re not alone.
The truth about natural food is made confusing so there are products and services to sell.
Find relief in knowing that our nutrition doesn’t have to be as complicated as we’re led to believe.
The journey to reclaiming health starts with understanding that we’ve gotten lost over the years.
And the directions are as simple as consistently making small, conscious choices to reconnect with our Self.
And the best part?
It doesn’t have to cost us a thing.
Please share…What was your most successful diet program? And why do you consider it successful? What is the longest you’ve stayed on a diet?
